Comprehensive Eye Examinations
Dr. Arredondo is best known for her ability to provide the most thorough and comprehensive eye exams. She provides vision care for both children and adults. Not only does she help her patients see better with glasses or contact lenses, but she examines both the front and inside of the eyes with a biomicroscope for all eye diseases. Since the eyes are often the windows to our systemic health as well, Dr. Arredondo highly recommends annual eye exams.

Contact Lenses
Contact lens products are constantly changing. The contact lens market includes everything from daily disposables to biweekly and monthly disposable lenses. Some of Dr. Arredondo’s patients choose to wear their contacts for only certain events, like sports, while others choose to use them daily. She will discuss your visual goals with you and then help decide which option will work best for your needs. Previously, many patients had to quit wearing contact lenses because of dry eyes or allergies. Now, there are many more options available to help these patients wear their contacts comfortably. If you have never worn contact lenses but are interested in wearing them, our office will teach you how to insert and remove them from your eyes and how to properly care for them. Whether you are interested in clear or colored contact lenses, Dr. Arredondo has an array of contact lenses to help meet all of your visual needs.

Eye Infections & Eye Injuries (Including Removal of Foreign Bodies)
Our office also provides emergency services for eye infections and eye injuries. Our office will work with you to get you seen as soon as possible. Dr. Arredondo will evaluate the extent of your injury or infection and get you on the road to recovery. She will explain all her findings to you and prescribe medicine, if necessary, to get your eyes feeling better.

Dry Eyes & Ocular Allergies
Many San Antonians battle both dry eyes and ocular allergies. Dry eyes and ocular allergies often give you that “foreign body” sensation and cause your eyes to become itchy, irritated and red. Dr. Arredondo will evaluate your eyes based on your reported symptoms and will also evaluate the front of your eye with a biomicroscope. She will then recommend a treatment plan for your dry eyes and / or ocular allergies. Regardless of the severity of the dry eyes or ocular allergies, Dr. Arredondo will make recommendations to you so your eyes can be more comfortable.

Eye Diseases Including Glaucoma, Cataracts & Diabetes
Unfortunately, diabetes is a disease that affects many different systems and areas of the body, including the eye. Diabetic retinopathy is a complication of diabetes and a leading cause of blindness. If you have diabetic retinopathy, at first you may notice no changes to your vision. But over time, diabetic retinopathy can get worse and cause vision loss. Ultimately, a person can go completely blind from it. Since diabetic retinopathy often has no early warning signs, diabetic patients should not wait for symptoms. Everyone, especially diabetics, should have a comprehensive dilated exam at least once a year. In fact, people with severe diabetic retinopathy can reduce their risk of blindness by 95 percent with timely treatment and appropriate follow-up care. If Dr. Arredondo discovers that you have advanced diabetic retinopathy, she will refer you to a retinal specialist for consultation and treatment. Her main goal is to preserve your sight!

Glaucoma is a disease that gradually destroys the eye’s optic nerve, which results in vision loss and blindness. Glaucoma is called the “silent thief of sight” because it unfortunately has no true symptoms until it is in its advanced stages and significant damage has occurred. As glaucoma remains untreated, people may miss objects to the sides and out of the corners of their eyes. Without treatment, people with glaucoma will slowly lose their peripheral vision. Dr. Arredondo always checks for glaucoma in all of her patients during the comprehensive eye exam. A few patients with advanced forms of glaucoma will sometimes need laser treatments or other types of eye surgery. If this is the case, Dr. Arredondo will refer you to an experienced surgeon to receive the proper treatment.

Unfortunately, we are all destined to have cataracts at some point in our lives. Cataracts occur when the normally clear lens in our eye becomes cloudy. This clouding impairs vision by preventing the lens from properly focusing light on the retina at the back of the eye. Dr. Arredondo is well trained to diagnose cataracts in her patients and to manage their care. She also co-manages with eye surgeons who perform cataract surgery for her patients. Many of her patients have opened their eyes to a brand new world of sight after having their cataracts removed surgically.

Laser Vision Correction
Dr. Arredondo is happy to discuss all available refractive procedures with her patients. If a patient is interested in LASIK, she will thoroughly explain the procedure to the patient and help him or her decide whether it is the right decision. If the patient is interested, she will do some preliminary tests and also help the patient pick the right surgeon and the appropriate laser procedure. She can recommend a surgeon and can often set up a free LASIK consultation for the patient. If the patient decides to proceed with LASIK, she will often try to attend her patient’s surgery. She will then see the patient postoperatively to make sure the eyes heal properly. Dr. Arredondo loves seeing her patients’ amazing results! Many of her patients are unable to see the “big E” before surgery, but can easily see 20 / 20 after the procedure. This is Dr. Arredondo’s favorite part of co-managing LASIK.

Surgery Co-Management
Our office also co-manages with various ophthalmologists in order to take care of our patients’ ocular surgical needs. Dr. Arredondo co-manages LASIK and other refractive surgeries, as well as cataract surgery and glaucoma surgical procedures. She is also an affiliate with TLC Laser Eye Centers. She makes it a point to make sure her patients are taken care of from start to finish.
